Natural and effective remedies to lighten dark circles

The skin under the eyes is the thinnest on the body. With aging, this part of the face becomes more vulnerable and must be treated very delicately. Along with genetics, various other factors like insomnia, stress, fatigue, dehydration, allergies and sun damage can lead to peri-orbital hyperpigmentation or dark circles. It is difficult to eradicate this hyperpigmentation completely, but it can definitely be minimized by applying natural ingredients that lighten the skin tone under the eyes without causing much damage. It is important to avoid using harsh chemicals under the eyes.

According to dietitian Garima Goyal, here is a list of things you can use to ease your dark circles:

1.) Rose water: Rose water has a skin lightening effect and also soothes and calms this area. The senses are also relaxed with the refreshing aroma of rose water. Soak the cotton pads in water and then in plain rose water. Apply this under the eyes at least twice a week for best results.

2.) raw milk: Skin aging and pigmentation can be reduced by the presence of lactic acid in raw milk. Also, fresh milk relaxes blood vessels under the eyes. Soak raw milk with cotton pads and apply gently under the eye for best results.

3.) Tea bags: Dilated blood vessels under the eyes cause hyperpigmentation, which can be reduced by applying cold tea bags to the eyes at night as they contain polyphenols and catechins. For best results, use green tea bags, steeped and squeezed in chilled water.

4.) Mint leaves: The methanol in mint leaves reduces water retention under the skin and reduces swelling under the skin. Make a smooth paste by mashing 8-10 mint leaves with a little water and apply it under your eyes until it dries.

5.) Amla/gooseberry: This vitamin C is rich in antioxidants fruit it helps in the regeneration of the skin under the eyes and rejuvenates the skin with a healthy glow. Apply a smooth paste of amla powder and honey under the eyes.

6.) Saffron: Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory the properties of this spice help reduce complexion and skin tone, especially under the eyes. Soak a few strands of saffron in raw milk and then apply this concoction under your eyes on the dark circle prone area with your fingertips at night and wash your face the next morning.

7.) Tomato juice: The lycopene in this fruit has whitening and skin brightening properties. The presence of Vitamin C, Vitamin K and potassium in tomato also gives healthy skin.

8.) Coffee and Honey Scrub: The large amount of antioxidants found in coffee makes it a good choice for reducing bloating. The caffeine in coffee acts as a natural skin toner that improves blood circulation. Mix a teaspoon of honey and coffee powder to make a paste to apply under the eyes. Honey acts as a moisturizer that helps absorb caffeine into the skin.

9.) Cucumber: Provides a soothing effect and reduces hyperpigmentation under the eyes due to its antioxidant content. The high water content in it maintains the skin hydrated. Increases collagen production. Hold the cucumber slices on your eyes for 10-15 minutes.

10.) Ice cubes: By improving blood circulation under the eyes, they reduce the levels of puffiness.
Put ice cubes directly on the affected area or by folding them in a cotton handkerchief.

11.) Potato juice: The astringent properties of the enzymes and starch in potato juice reduce inflammation and help tighten the skin. Use grated Potato to squeeze out the juice and wipe it with a muslin cloth. Apply this juice with cotton pads under the eye.

12.) Turmeric: The curcumin in turmeric is an excellent healer due to its antioxidant properties. It reduces the production of melanin and makes the skin glow. Make a paste of flour, turmeric powder and mint leaf juice and apply to desired spots.

13.) Lemon juice: Vitamin C and whitening properties of lemon helps lighten skin and reduce pigmentation. Apply tomato and lemon juice under the eyes to reduce puffiness.

14.) Aloe Vera: For deep skin nourishment and soothing effect, use aloe vera gel. It moisturizes the skin, increases blood circulation and helps reduce swelling. Massage the gel into the skin under the eyes in circular motions.
